Next Lab
Stay tuned for the next MAL dates to drop along with the featured material! Coming Soon!
Material Activation Lab is designed to show what reclaimed materials can become when artists and designers are given a focused material prompt, time to experiment, and a public platform for the finished work.
The goals are to activate surplus materials, support creative experimentation, develop market-aware work, document new material possibilities, and connect the public to the value of creative reuse.
Each Material Activation Lab follows a quarterly rhythm. Dates should be updated for each round.
Each Lab may include additional awards depending on funding, partners, and the current material brief.
The public showcase is where the material experiments, finished pieces, and participant stories come together. Next Showcase 6/25/2026.
Each round may have different eligibility details. In general, MAL is designed for artists, designers, makers, students, and creative practitioners interested in working with reclaimed materials.
